The greenStation system is designed for use as a thin-server for our greenFarm™ virtualization server, or a stand-alone workstation for accessing the Internet and using home-office and small business applications. Disk storage is configurable from 320GB to 1TB (1,000GB), and an internal DVD read-write drive is available as an option (we suggest you use an external USB CD or DVD drive for energy saving reasons). Power consumption during idle and casual use is a low 30 watts, with a maximum power consumption of the greenStation well below the idle power consumption of many of our competitors products.
The greenStation system is based on the low-power Intel® Atom® processor. The Atom® 330 processor contains dual cores, with each core supporting 2 threads, for a total of 4 executing threads. Combined with our performance-enhancing disk drive systems, the greenStation provides performance consistent with higher power systems, but at 25% or less of the energy consumption[1].
What do you get when you cross a low-power, high performance personal workstation and a video card with support for the latest flat-panel televisions and monitors? We call it the greenStation Media PC, a bundled configuration that gives you low power consumption access to your multimedia files, as well as on-line content from Hulu™ and others. With local hard drive storage to spare, the greenStation Media PC has more than enough room to store all your files and downloads.
The base greenStation system configuration is 2GB 533MHz DDR2 RAM, 320GB RAID 0 (striped) disk, 1 Gigabit / second Ethernet, front panel USB-based card reader, and the Gentoo Linux™ operating system. An internal DVD / CD reader / writer with LightScribe support is available as an upgrade option (we recommend an external DVD / CD device). For Microsoft® operating system users, we make both Windows XP® and Windows Vista® available as installable options.
